You may think that because we’re located in the motherland of the Blues, we decided to start our own group to help promote music and artists in this area. Well, that’s partially true, but the fact is we are part of a network of more than 200 blues societies dedicated to preserving this invaluable music genre.
From Australia to Israel, and from Oregon to Maryland, those societies gather to celebrate their love of the blues and for the larger mission of our umbrella organization, the Blues Foundation:
to preserve blues heritage, celebrate blues recording and performance, expand world-wide awareness of the blues, and ensure the future of the uniquely American art form. “
MDBSI as an affiliate of the Blues Foundation fully participates in its projects and events including the International Blues Challenge, Blues Music Awards, Silent Auction Fundraisers, Generation Blues, Keeping the Blues Alive Awards, Blues Hall of Fame, HART Fund, Blues in the Schools, and Bricks for the Blues.
